A downloadable mod

Exhaustion mode is a difficulty/rebalancing mod for Minecraft Beta 1.7.3, with an emphasis on stricter game balance and a more demanding survival experience. No new blocks, items or monsters are added, but the numbers are tweaked to enhance the game's resource management and survival elements.

  • Mining has been overhauled: All ore now spawns far less often outside caves (diamonds don't spawn at all outside caves), forcing the player to explore caves instead of tunnel through solid rock. All ores are also less common, particularly iron. Caves are more common and interconnected to account for these changes.
  • Animals spawn less often, particularly pigs.
  • Wheat stacks only to 16, and wheat farms now slowly shrink instead of producing enough seeds to sustain a farm forever.
  • Fishing rods have only enough durability to gather a small few fish, removing them as an easy source of infinite food.
  • Stone tools are removed, going from wood straight to iron. This forces the player to make do with wood tools early game and removes a redundant step from progression.
  • Arrows are more scarce. Bows have durability and have to be replaced eventually.
  • Beds can no longer skip nighttime, only set the player's spawn point.
  • Monsters from monster spawners no longer drop loot. Dungeon loot is better to make up for this.
  • This mod is also based on Mongster's Beta 1.7.3 instance which adds various bug fixes and quality of life changes, mostly to the UI.
