Tactiquest is a tactical combat TTRPG with the following design goals:

  • Strategic, fast-paced fights with no wasted turns and no stuns, meaning time spent on fights is boiled down to interesting decisions and impactful abilities rather than waiting for a good die roll to land a hit or shrug off being stunned.
  • A wide variety of flavorful and focused character classes designed to capture specific, compelling fantasies and feel wildly distinct from each other.
  • A mostly diceless approach that brings player input to the forefront, using dice only to set up situations, never to resolve them.
  • An emphasis on resource management and attrition, tuned to fit the pace of a typical campaign.
  • Player-driven sandbox campaigns designed to facilitate exploration and setting your own goals.
  • A buffet of evocative and interesting monsters who are easy to run while providing a more interesting challenge than simple bags of hit points.

Tactiquest is currently in playtesting so you may run into balance issues, typos, inconsistencies or clearly unfinished sections; the bestiary also only has about half the planned number of included monsters.

Hey I'm really enjoying reading this and may put it through its paces soon in actual play. Messing around with making characters now.

Couple things: Should the spell gravity pinch have an asterisk in the Runeblade spell list? It does in the actual entry, possible typo.

And I find the term "minimum" a bit confusing with its actual definition, it's essentially a non-stacking increase? So, if I had some ability that granted an inherent 1 Blade resistance, and had a spell on me that granted minimum 2 Blade resistance, I'd have 2 Blade resistance, but if I had a spell on me that granted +1 Blade resistance instead I'd still have 1 Blade resistance and the bonus would be negated. Is that right?

Thanks for the work on this cool game!

that's correct! that is how minimums work.

thanks for trying it out, and also yeah that is a typo, will fix in the next patch!

Hey this is a neat concept! I really like the art style. I like all your design goals too!
